Jasper Fforde has created a fast and quirky read in The Eyre Affair. It is humorous. It is a mystery. It is fantasy. It requires the reader to suspend disbelief. The plot is unusual and well executed. Bibliophiles will love this series. But I digress.

#1 in the Thursday Next fantasy series
I thought I would like this book more than I did. I remember reading it as a young adult and finding it hilarious. There was a lot to like about it, but the controversy and arguments of the society in the book seemed too reminiscent of today's politics and left me with a negative feeling. This was an okay story. I was expecting to enjoy it more than I did, but I didn't hate it. At times the writing was hard to follow, and that is probably what most hampered my enjoyment, but I think I still might give the next book in the series a read.
