Jasper Fforde has created a fast and quirky read in The Eyre Affair. It is humorous. It is a mystery. It is fantasy. It requires the reader to suspend disbelief. The plot is unusual and well executed. Bibliophiles will love this series. But I digress.

It is 1985 in an alternate Great Britain. It is almost a police state thanks to the Goliath Corporation. Time travel is the norm as is cloning of resurrected species. The Crimean War is still being fought after 132 years. Authors are meg

This book was so delightfully different from any other books I've read. It's got time-travel and secret government departments and tons of literary references. The main Jane Eyre plot doesn't get going until more than halfway but if you love that book like I do, the wait is worth it. I will definitely be continuing with the series. ...more

#1 in the Thursday Next fantasy series

I thought I would like this book more than I did. I remember reading it as a young adult and finding it hilarious. He leads her and her comrades on a merry chase and manages to outsmart them to the end.

The pacing was up and down. There were moments of excitement, such as the action sequ

Jasper Fforde has an elegant flow and use of English language and a brilliant imagination. The alternate world that he has created with the ‘Thursday Next’ series took me completely by surprise. It has been on my to be read shelf for over a year and it was only after I read a review by Christopher Moore that I decided that now is the time for me to read this story.

Jasper Fforde takes the reader on a literary journey through all the classics and provides a different view and spin with them. I ha
