A Cold day for Murder by Dana Stabenow is the first book in the Kate Shugak Mystery series. Former investigator for the Anchorage D.A., Kate Shugak is asked to find a missing park ranger and a missing investigator who was sent to look for him. I liked the setting and the descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness but I had a hard time getting into the story. It seemed rather drawn out and I wasn't able to connect with any of the characters. There wasn't anything to make me want to continue with this ...more

How is it that this is book one in the series, but I still feel like I missed a book? All of the characters seem to know way more than I did about what was going on, so I felt more like an interloper than a fan invested in their lives. Oh, and while you are on the internet go ahead and look up the word kinnikinnick...you will want to know what it means and this will save you one interruption.
