Not sure what exactly I was expecting from this book, but this wasn't it. There was parts that I enjoyed and found intrigue, but it was weighted down with other stuff that I didn't find a connection to. I think the mystery and intrigue could have been developed more which would have held my interest better.
I felt that the characters lacked solid development to aid the story. We learn some about Clay and his love interest, but the depth wasn't there. I understand why some of the characters main ...more

This book felt like it was trying really hard to be ready player one. I should have loved this it claimed to be about books and it even had a bit of knitting thrown in. Yet, the book was really about tech and Google with WAY too much talk of animated boobs. Even talking about this book makes me want to rate it even lower, but I don't feel it deserves that low of a rating.

I honestly didn't know what to expect from Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan but I loved it!!! I knew that it was a book about books/bookstore but I didn't know that I would be pulled into a world of secret societies (historical and new), Google and all its perks, typefaces (there is more than New Times Roman, and cryptography (read the book). It was confusing at times but always followed up with explanations of some sort that made being confused humorous. With the cast of characte

Clay Jannon is unemployed and desperate. He stumbles upn Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour Bookstore and on a whim goes in and applies. This is a different kind of bookstore. Instead of being large it is tall.
In the front there is a fairly normal book store, except there are hardly any books and nobody ever comes in.
In the back there are shelf upon shelf of books. These are not for sale they are borrowed by a certain clientele, not everyone can borrow them. Of course Clay is not allowed to touch the book ...more

Wow, this was awesome! Like a modern day fairy tale with secret societies, hidden libraries, and epic quest, a philosophers stone of its very own kind, and all of that wrapped up in a bookstore and Google... ! I couldn't get enough of this! Great way to start off my reading year

Even though this isn’t a fantasy novel, I feel as though the story weaves itself as if there’s magic to be found throughout the pages. I really loved this book and thought the author did a great job at telling their story. The writing flowed really well and I never felt as though it was dragging itself along, which is a big pet peeve of mine. However, I did only rate it four stars because of the ending. It wasn’t bad at all, just not really what I feel like the reader wanted. The climax felt lik

I liked this book for being a bit of fun, and a love letter to books and their continued importance even in the face of technological advancement. It didn't grab me and I found the solution to the mystery a little anti-climactic, but not a bad book by any means.
