Though this is but the first in a series of books about Anne, it stands alone quite nicely.
When Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan to help them on the farm in their old age it’s a surprise to their neighbors. But they, themselves, are surprised to find that the orphan they get is not the strong boy they requested but a skinny, red-haired, highly imaginative 10-year-old girl. Anne quickly becomes enamored of Green Gables, and the Cuthberts are just as quickly enamored of Anne ...more

I read this as an adult and wondered why I hadn't ever read it as a child. I fell in love with Anne Shirley and had to run to the library for the rest of the series. I read a good few on a 'stay at home' vacation and still remember it as a heavenly vacation.

My book club decided to read this classic, so for my fourth trip through it, I decided to listen to it and it was delightful as always. Montgomery's story of Anne Shirley is beguiling, sweet, and full of great quotes. I never tire of Anne and her dreams.

I love the Anne of Green Gables movies, so I decided to read the books. I really enjoyed it.
This is one of the few series that though I enjoyed reading it, I am listening to it on tape. I read it the first time and listened to it the 2nd time.

My aunt read Anne of Green Gables regularly. Her mother, my grandmother, was born on Prince Edward Island. And yet, I never got around to reading this book until now. Why did I wait so long? For I know that if I had read it as a girl it would have been one of my favorite books ever. And even now, at a much more advanced age, it is still absolutely delightful. Anne Shirley, the young orphan girl who is adopted by the shy and retiring brother and sister pair Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, is a chil

This is my favorite reread. I have read it more times than I can remember :-D
About the hair thingy... it was only this year I came to think about that it would have worked, had she just applied it correctly and more than once.

I absolutely loved this book. I don't know why I never read it when I was a child. The story or Anne Shirley an orphan with a great imagination who gets in lots of inadvertant trouble. I love the characters of Anne, Matthew and Marilla. I'm definitely reading more of this series.

I read all these as a child and enjoyed them but I don't think I could stand Anne Shirley now.
