I don't like how this book makes me feel - creeping into my mind, stalking me everywhere I go. I cannot look at tea, wine, ties, satin, audi's or saab's, the word "fifty", men in suits, men with broad shoulders, men in general....I can't look at any of these without thinking of the book. Overall storyline dropped to 3.5*
For approximately 1/2 of the book, I felt as if author simply regurgitated 1st book. Others have mentioned repetition in the simplistic (at times) dialogue & yes; it got very difficult to continue reading. And the sub-goddess thing hit my last nerve on pg 108; enough with the gymnastics metaphors please!
This book added much more drama. Seemed over-the-top & nonstop.
Finally, for a book supposedly bringing the best of BDSM to the masses, I felt this did an enormou Overall storyline dropped to 3.5*

Yes, there are some consensual & loving moments, but overall the underlying attitude is that it's "bad." What a disappointment.

So, why did I read it? And why will I probably read the rest?
Because I actually enjoy the characters, for the most part (sans the sub-goddess). It's lovely to watch Grey find love & open up to his first loving relationship (reciprocated). And I am relieved that the child molester was exposed & repudiated...enough of the "she helped me!"
I think the author wants to present a healthy relationship, from a broken man...that she wants to show the beauty & freedom of BDSM...she simply isn't successful.

Are there perverts? Abusive people amongst the BDSM scene? Well, I can't say for sure since I've not been in it, but I would assume so, simply because there are abusive people in every church, every town, every culture. But I adore the idea of open communication, specified limits, safewords...being able to explore with someone who has earned your trust.
And to answer the question, do lovers need safewords? Yes, I think even children need safewords. It may not be called that, but I raised my child with the express ability to say, "Mom, I need a break." "That's too much." "I don't like being treated that way." In other words, open communication. Any good relationship is a balance & requires participation of all parties.

I think I'll go back to my 5* series...this took me days to wade through & I need a happier outlook than the cliffhanger promising more drama! ...more

There were parts I liked and parts I didn't care for with this one.
I all but skipped through some of the sex scenes, I guess they were just getting boring.
But I did like how there was actually a plot to this one, it wasn't just sex, sex, sex (not that there is anything wrong with that LoL but I like it to have more of a story to go along with it).
