I listened to this one on audio. I don't know if it would have been easier or harder to read it though. I can't say I really enjoyed it or got much out of it, but at the same time, I wasn't expecting to. All the reviews talk about how the rest of the series is epic, but that you have to slog through this one, which is a notoriously difficult read, to get there.

The ratings are pretty high on this one, and I wonder if that is from re-reads from those who have finished the series, or if people wer ...more

I don't think I've ever been as confused by a book - ever. Even now, a couple of hours after finishing it. I'm still sitting here thinking "WTF"? The only thing that made any sense to me was the foreword.

After that - it all went to hell in a handbasket - but in a good way. There's a promise there, something that draws you in and keeps you reading - but it's not an easy read at all (even though it's been revised). It bounces backwards and forwards in time, slowl ...more

Overall, I ended up liking this story enough to possibly continue on with the series. I was not expecting there to be as many Christian themes as there was in the story, when I first noticed them and then especially with the creation part towards the end, I started to wonder if this was supposed to be some sort of quest for God or someone that is supposed to be God-like.

It has taken me a while to process this book and therefore its also taken a while to write a review. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. I just wasn't sure when I started out. I didn't know where it was headed - I mean, who was this gunslinger? What world did he exist in? And why was he chasing the man in black?
