It has taken me a while to process this book and therefore its also taken a while to write a review. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. I just wasn't sure when I started out. I didn't know where it was headed - I mean, who was this gunslinger? What world did he exist in? And why was he chasing the man in black? Having read quite a lot of Stephen King before, I was familiar with the man in black, but I felt lost. This is deep fantasy written in King's absolutely magnificent style,

Welll...
It started slow. It grew slower. 2/3 was oh so boring. Then it got interesting. Slightly interesting.
I will read the next book. Probably. One day. Or not.
This is basically what Stephen King says it is. Lord of the Spaghetti Western. With a bit of King Arthur blended in. And possibly some sir Walter Scott.
The beginning reads like it was written by a teenager. Maybe it was. The end was better.
He talks a lot about Roland's dick. ...more

I'm sorry but I found this book extremely boring. I'll have to really think about whether or not to continue this series.

God awful boring and totally pointless.

It was OK, although my mind kept drifting away from the words so I'd look up and have forgotten everything in the past few paragraphs. Also, and this was weird and probably all me, but it felt like a very male book, in that men were presumed to be the characters while any females were there as accessories. So the childhood friends or the zombie boy had goals and wishes, while the mom was there to cause Roland pain because someone was having sex with her, and Allie was there to want to have sex w
