There is a line early in this book that reads, “Perhaps there is some secret sort of homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers. How delightful if it were true.” It must be true, because I avoided this book for some time while everyone else was raving about it. It sounded much too sappy. A story told complete in letters? I really enjoyed this. I don't usually like novels written in letter format but it seemed to work very well for this story. I listened to this book. I don't think I would have liked it half as well if I had read the physical book. The story itself had a lot of fluff and was utterly predictable. However, the audiobook was read by some incredibly artists who drew out every bit of emotion and made the book come alive. I believe that this book was made to be read aloud and would make an absolutely lovely play if someone were to adapt it into a script ...more
