What Members Thought

I reread this novel in time for the release of the film adaptation and am so pleased I did! This is such a charming and witty story. If you need something quick and easy to read, or a palette cleanser after a heavy book, definitely pick this one up.

I have had The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer in my possession since 2009. A lady I had met while attending the Maccabiah Games in Israel left it for me at the front desk. Unfortunately, she checked out before I could thank her and upon my arrival back home, the book got lost on the slopes of Mt. TBR in my basement. Fortunately for me, I found it just a few days ago.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about my experience with this book. I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version which created the feeling of sitting in a cozy armchair while each of these charming people read their letters to me personally. It added so much to the story. I’m sure that I would have enjoyed actually reading it, but the audio experience will be unforgettable for me.

The letters did a great job of bringing each character to life and made me wish I could travel to Guernsey to meet them. Juliet's sparkling, vivacious personality was a fantastic addition to the unique members of the Literary Society.
