What Members Thought

I just finished Ender's Game and though I liked it, I thought the writing was kind of stilted. The paragraphs just didn't flow from one to the other. It seems hodge-podge to me as if someone edited out whole paragraphs so those left behind didn't quite fit together.
I did like Ender and really felt bad for him in all situations. His brother hated him so he wasn't comfortable at home. His fellow students picked on him so he wasn't comfortable at school. So it was no surprise to me that when given ...more

9/5/23: I enjoyed it just as much this time. This is a great kids' adventure. I never have got around to reading any of the subsequent books but I find this one just perfect. If Ender seems a bit advanced for a 6-year-old, well, this is a story, a science fiction story, & a bloody good one at that.

One of my favorite sci-fi books. I originally read this book as a teenager and loved it. I read Ender's Shadow and then reread Ender's Game in 5/03 and it was just as good as I remembered it. Listened to it in 10/09 because I was going to listen to the sequels. I got as far as Speaker for the Dead, but someday I will read Xenocide.
I didn't like the sequels in this series, because they get too political, but I liked the Ender's Shadow series.
