حزينة ل ...more

Henry DeTamble is a time traveler. He has no control over when or where he travels, and he can’t take anything with him, so he always arrives naked and without money, ID or food. The book chronicles Henry’s life and that of his wife, Clare Abshire … at least to early middle-age. How they met, when they met, who remembers whom, how they fall in love, and most importantly, how they deal with Henry’s condition.

First love, lasting love, a forever love that transcends time...all the elements that make this novel worth reading.
Clare has known Henry since she was six years old, but he doesn't truly meet her until she is twenty and he, twenty-eight. Implausible sounding, but this is the novelty of time travel as it is told in this story of the art student and librarian respectively. When they meet in real time, it is magical.
At times a bit confusing (reading the segment headings definitely help), Henry an ...more

Henry DeTamble & Clare Abshire
I want to start by saying that my actual rating is 4.5, but I rated up to 5.
This story is amazing. Of course I saw the movie adaptation years ago and that was amazing, but experiencing ever nuance of this story just added an extra layer.
I didn't realize how thought provoking it would be. Would Clare had fallen in love with Henry if he hadn't been visiting her when she was an impressionable child? Was it actually fate? I kept thinking that it would have felt more l ...more

I would give this 3 1/2 stars because I didn't hate it. It was just about 100 pages too long, which, for me, detracted from the whole book so that I felt it was getting unnecessary. I really loved the concept, and I loved having to think hard to get my head around the logic of it. I really enjoyed how Henry's life and those he was involved with was a chaos of cause and effect without ever really knowing which was which. Henry as a character grew on me a little, although I wasn't enormously fond
