#2 in the Ruth Galloway mystery series

Once again, I am intrigued with this series because of the characters. Ruth is a likeable character--shy, not social, intelligent, with a strong core, independent, and self-deprecating. I like that she's inquisitive but not reckless. She learns about the dig or mystery she's involved with, providing us with interesting facts about history and mythology while deciphering what they mean in today's world and in connection with the people whose bones she's inves

2023: Such a good story. It's really fun to go back to the beginning of the journey with these complicated characters & remember how things began. The setting is an archaeological dig in Norfolk (England) where a body has been found in the foundation of a house that is slated for destruction.

The mystery is a true mystery

I wasn't sure about this book when I first started it - the third-person present POV took a little getting used to, but after several pages all I cared about was the characters and the story. I really liked the way the author worked in elements of Roman and pagan mythology, and the character Cathbad was just priceless. I will definitely read more by this author! ...more
