While there was a certain amount of predictability in this novel, the ride was fun and the journey wasn't hard work, so all in all, I can say I enjoyed it immensely. :)

Not bad, but I sort of figured out the killer when the person was first introduced. There was something about them that didn't sit right. I like the idea of a forensic anthropologist (or is it archaeologist), studying old bones and coming across new ones, and I did like Ruth. It's the writing I hate, third person present tense. Apart from Hilary Mantel (or someone of that caliber) no one should be using it. Even with Hilary Mantel and Wolf Hall, it took a bit of getting used to. With Griffiths,

I gave this book 2 ½ stars and have rounded to 3. I am not sure if I will continue with this series. I did not like the writing or especially care for any of the characters. Ruth annoyed me with her constant complaint of her weight and how lonely that she was. She did not attempt to socialize and preferred to stay in her home alone. It also appears a little strange to me that she is an archaeologist but is asked to help solve a current kidnapping/murder mystery.
When she's not digging up bones or other ancient objects, quirky, tart-tongued archaeologist Ruth Galloway lives happily alone in a remote area called Saltmarsh near Norfolk, land that was sacred to its Iron Age inhabitants.
