What Members Thought

I won't call this book "too weird" — it's not like I finished it and then slunk off to the grocery store to buy some James Patterson — but I struggled with the first half. It seemed like just one bizarre, randomish thing after another. Zap! We're on a freaky carousel. Bing! We're in another dimension. Pow! We're drinking mead with a leprechaun.

Let me start by saying I really enjoyed this book, however there were a couple of scenes that lost a star for my rating. These scenes were overtly violent and/or sexual in nature and I felt they were added to give a bit of shock value to the book,as they did not particularly add the story in any meaningful way.
Beyond that, it would have earned four stars from me as it is a compelling and thought provoking piece, combining mythology and current issues in an interesting and dynamic way. The prota ...more
