Absolutely beautiful! This story was so rich and vivid. With attention to personal details, you could almost think this is a real memoir.
from her childhood as Chiyo, her days as a maid and finally her transformation into Sayuri and her life as a geisha. It was a remarkable, heartfelt journey. She goes through so many hardships to obtain the best life possible and make her dream come true. It is a show of how life does not always go as we want. That others actions can affect our own.

I'm finding that I'm into historical fiction a lot lately and this book definitely satisfied my desire for historical accuracy woven into a captivating plot. I found myself very involved in the book and experienced quite a range of emotions as I identified with the primary character. I initially read this book so that I could watch the movie. But now having read it, I would recommend it to anyone who loves historical fiction, with or without seeing the movie.

I loved the history in here. However, I found the relationships between characters poorly drawn, and the story skipped forward in time randomly. A good read overall, though.
