I initially rated this a three, but by the time I've begun to type this review, it's a couple of stars down. I don't know why, but I expected to like this more. I'm not a very enthusiastic coffee drinker. I'm more the tea type. But, I do like coffeehouses, and I do like cozies. I think I do, I'm not sure anymore. I can't relate to these nosy ladies whose idea of an investigation is to go and point blank accuse random people with circumstantial evidence at best. Sometimes, it's not even that. Som ...more

After her daughter goes of to college, Clare Cosi decides to move back to New York City and manage the coffeehouse where she previously worked as an assistant manager for years. It's set in the Village so you have a small community environment that's very atmospheric. I just finished On What Grounds (Coffeehouse Mystery, #1) by Cleo Coyle It was OK; a little gung ho on the coffee. I like black coffee, no espresso, no frills; doesn't seem to be an option with any characters in this book. The 2 love interests and a potential third hinted at in the 1 page enticer at the end of the book is a kind of turn off for me. I probably won't run out to find number 2. ...more

I enjoyed this one. Clare is mature enough not to be silly except when dealing with Matt. Good mystery with somewhat predictable ending. nOTE: I reread this one in May 2014 because I wanted to go through the series and had forgotten this first in series. I liked it better the second time around but please cozy writers---if Jesus Christ is not in the story, please leave his name out of it.

When the story started I wasn't to excited about it. It was starting out more hard core than a cozy mystery would be and then getting into the coffee talk. I'm not a coffee fan and I found it to be Too Much! As it got going though, I started to get into it and by the end, I'm interested in reading the next in the series. ...more
