I don't read a lot of Nicholas Sparks but I know of his reputation. He's supposed to be overly romantic and then yank at the heartstrings. This novel left me disappointed because I didn't feel much for the characters. I liked Dawson but even when it came to the end of his story, I wasn't moved by how it all played out. As for Amanda, I felt that she was a weak character. There was enough going on in her life that I felt like I should sympathize for her, but I didn't. Then when all of the climax ...more

I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan who has read all of his novels more than once. I would highly recommand The Best of Me to anyone who has enjoyed a Sparks book in the past. Some of his are hit and miss but this one is dead on.

Are there any books by this author that end with a happily ever after? Any at all? This is the third one I have read and they are so depressing. The ending was a little too Days of Our Lives for me.

I think this is the first Nicholas Spark book I read (listened to), although I know I saw the movie, The Notebook and possibly A Walk to Remember. I loved this book. The ending wasn't quite what I expected, but it was still pretty good.
