I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan who has read all of his novels more than once. I would highly recommand The Best of Me to anyone who has enjoyed a Sparks book in the past. Some of his are hit and miss but this one is dead on.

Oh. This is the most depressing book I've read in a while. However, most of the characters reminded me of people that I know or knew and therefore I found a surprising amount of enjoyment in it.

In typical Nicholas Sparks' fashion, it was a bit of a tearjerker. There were moments of poignancy and joy, love, loss, and redemption as well in the story of the young love and lives of Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole. In the town in which he grew up, Dawson (a member of the less-than-savory Cole family) truly is the best of them, and gives to those he loves, the best of himself.
