This was quite a fascinating book, not my usual style at all. Lots of actual history surrounding the War of the Roses, which occurred in the 1400's. What an exhausting time period in which to live--so much conniving and treachery going on, so much death. It all starts with Elizabeth who meets Edward (future king) in order to gain back her lands. I liked this much more than I thought I would, which is always a nice surprise. Elizabeth Woodville, the wife of Edward IV, is a fascinating figure. There are so many great stories from this period: the young widow standing in the road with her two boys to catch the eye of the young king, the alleged witchcraft she practiced with her mother, murder, mayhem.
