A little disappointed with this one

I liked this much more than I thought I would, which is always a nice surprise. Elizabeth Woodville, the wife of Edward IV, is a fascinating figure. There are so many great stories from this period: the young widow standing in the road with her two boys to catch the eye of the young king, the alleged witchcraft she practiced with her mother, murder, mayhem. This is the first book in the series by the author about the Cousin's War or the Wars of the Roses. It was a violent time when everyone wanted the power of the throne and did anything to get it. No one could be trusted, mainly because no one was trustworthy. Elizabeth, even though a commoner who married a king, was as devious as the rest. She certainly fit right in. I did enjoy the book and look forward to reading the next one in the series.

2.75 - It took me a long time to get into this book. I just didn't feel much of a connection with the main character (I actually thought she was pretty unlikeable). I've read & liked plenty of Philippa Gregory's books, but this one wasn't my favorite.
