A book hasn't gutted me like this in a long time. Of the last 100 pages, 80 of them I was holding back tears and the final 20 I was sobbing. I might still have some tears on my cheeks as I write this review. I loved the choppy way the book was written (which is completely a personal taste thing for me). Wow! Just, Wow!
I know I'm late to the party and most have read this book by now, but somehow this book always eluded me. I had no idea who the narrator was, the plot of the book (except it is set in the WWII era), who the main character was, etc. I am so glad I didn't know. I had no expectations going in, except that everyone I knew who read it said it was one of their favourite books ever. Now, it's one of mine too.
