I enjoyed reading Garden Spells. At times I found it very enchanting. This was mostly when Claire was tending to the garden or when she used the most imaginative herbs and flowers to her catered food. These ingredients were used to encourage feelings in the people who ate them. Coincidentally, after reading this book, my husband and I planted our summer garden. Maybe I can spread a little magic.

This book took me a long time to read because I read it for a challenge that I am already a year late on so I read it in between other books I am reading for more current challenges. That doesn't change the fact that I was always happy to get back to it. This is a lovely story, especially lovely as summer reading. It is, for the most part, light and airy with a beautifully incorporated theme of magical realism. The story revolves around two sisters reuniting after years of contentious separation

I read the second book first (First Frost) so I enjoyed seeing the story behind the Waverley family-their magical apple tree, Bay's arrival to Bascom and Claire's unique ability to affect people with her cooking. Such beautiful imagery and an emotional story.
