I watched and loved the movie, and I've been meaning to read the book ever since. Took me a while to get there. But it was a great read, one extremely easy to read for a subject such as (the non existence of) civil rights in 1960s in Mississippi. What I really liked about the book, other than its ease of reading, was that it was told in three separate voices, and all of them were distinct.

Stockett really tried to capture the fast-paced changes occurring during that time-period. Some characters kept up and some didn't. That just added to the entertainment.

Loved Minni Jackson she was hilarious. It was hard to see such a tough woman be brought down by such a terrible husband. I loved Celia Foote too she tried so hard to get people to like her and she thought everyone was nice because she was.
