3.5 Stars. Though I liked it I enjoyed the other Bronte sister's book Wuthering Heights more.
And on a side note... I'm trying to figure out what went wrong with the casting of the movie. Mr. Rochester is described in the book as really plain bordering on ugly and the actor that comes to mind was Michael Fassbender? If that man is considered even a tiny bit plain or ugly then I'd chop off my left tit. ...more

I am surprised by the feminism in this story. I was expecting a gentle, submissive Victorian flower and get an independent, intelligent woman that wouldn't have difficulties living in today's world.
I also like Charlotte's writing. Easy read.

Reading classics for me felt intimidating; maybe it was the way I was taught English literature in high school. But I decided it was time to tackle my fear and read some in my grown-up years. I can understand people that prefer to watch the adaptations of the movies and the T.V. series instead of reading the book in the old language, or as readers, we can't connect with the translation of non-English works.

I absolutely loved this book. What a wonderful love story & such wonderful characters - Jane, Mr. Rochester. This is now my new favorite Classic, one I'm sure I'll read over and over again.
