This book was just the sort of change of pace I needed at the moment. It's style is wholly different than anything else I've been reading lately. It's got a certain charm to it in the story of Maisie's past and her time with the Comptons and her relationship with her father. In fact, that portion of her life has a very storybook fairy tale sort of vibe in that everything is just a bit too good to be true. Then WWI happens and everyone's life changes.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters and the plot were very well written. I love the idea off Maisie as a main character to have her own detective agency in 1929. I know this is the first book in the series, but when I started the book I expected a mystery. It never really happened until towards the end. The middle of the book was more of a background story of Maisie, but I enjoyed it from a historical fiction perceptive and I know it is good to get to know the characters for a m
