This was a great book. I enjoyed it even more than I thought. It was about a young Hawaiian girl at the end of the 19th century, who tested positive for leprosy (now known as Hansen's Disease). Now just from this , one may think it would be downright depressing and boring But it was very much the opposite. It talked a lot about Hawaiian culture, including Hawaiian mythology and how Rachel and the other inhabitants of Molokai'i, where leprosy patients were sent to live in exile, formed their own

4 stars. I’ve had this on my radar for years and I was in the mood for something historical and this fit the bill. I loved it. Brennert’s writing is absolutely stunning. Lush and vivid and everything felt so well researched. I liked the characters and the story had me hooked. Such a great read.
