Some of my complaints in reading is that "nothing is happening"; Character Studies are generally not for me; Romances too sappy; Paranormal too unrealistic.
So to my surprise I found this book to be a very sweet romantic look at one woman's struggle to mold her life on her terms. I was always tense when others, well-intentioned or not, tried to force her into "doing what was best" for her.
To my surprise, I even cried at the end of her journey! A charming story.

An elegant, beautifully told, poignant love story, set in the early 1900s. I devoured this story in very short order.
Lucy Muir, a widow with two children, Cyril & Anna, breaks away from her in-laws & tries to live on her own terms: not an easy thing for a lone woman to do in Victorian England. My memories of this story were from the TV show, which I enjoyed much more than the book.

2.0/5.0 - Poor Lucy, poor little Mrs. Muir, gag. This was a free audio book, and a short one, so at least there was little investment in time or money. The first part of the book was okay, Lucy stood her ground in the beginning, but by the end, she was a simpering, whiny old lady with a self-centered son and a daughter who just wanted to be "not a lady", but ended up one anyway. I never saw the movie, but I vaguely remember the tv series, which may have colored my expectations.
