One day, I will meet Rachel Joyce and I will ask her to be my best friend.
Summary: Lady hits child with car - or does she? Lady befriends child's mother, who is a pariah. Convoluted relationship ensues, with equal parts deception and love. And don't get me started on the lady's husband, who treats his family like a curator might treat things in his museum. Et cetera.

Gripping psychological thriller full of twists and turns and an ending that I didn't see coming. 4 stars!

So many times I love a book but don't like the ending. This book is just the opposite.
The story is interesting but very depressing. There are two stories running side by side forty some years apart. The mom of the 13 year old boy seemed to be clueless about life around her which seemed a bit off since it is hinted that she was not this ...more

3.5 stars actually--this is a novel that is difficult to define. Two seconds are to be added to the clock in 1972, and it is these two seconds that drive the whole novel. The reader meets Byron and his mother Diana; the reader meets Jim, the man who has OCD mental issues, too. As the novel continues the reader becomes involved with caring about both, and the reader sees how each changes as their lives eventually intersect.
