The writing is beautiful and distinct, befitting the landscape. I'm glad the author did not make Agnes into some feminist champion or tragic heroine (although there is plenty that is tragic). Instead, Agnes is incredibly human and the story so very well done.

A short way into the book, I was so intrigued I decided to stop and do a little internet research on Agnes Magnusdottir and the Illugastadir murders. Unfortunately, there isn't much information on either.
