I have read a lot of mythological tales. I have studied the Greek and Roman authors in great detail.
However... this is a very special book. It gives a very interesting portrait especially of Patrocles and Achilles. The author manages to characterize the Greek world as we know it and give a very modern feeling. 3 stars. Three “it’s not even giving what y’all said it was supposed to gave” stars. I’m salty but I’m gonna keep it cute because I know this book is super beloved and I’m trying to be a better person. This book has been hyped to hell and back and I have been putting it off for that very reason. A retelling like no other, absolutely worth the hype.

The main reason for this is that there truly isn't much of an interesting story before they get to Troy. So, Miller is compelled to fill it with an overly sappy love story between Achilles and Patroclus. There's ...more

Wow! I just finished listening to the audiobook (narrated by Frazer Douglas) and I'm kinda stunned. Patroclus provides such a unique perspective on the life of, the hero, Achilles -- also the Trojan War. A heart wrenching love story. Highly Recommend! ...more
