The fascinating story of Percy Fawcett and his Amazonian explorations. I'd heard of Fawcett before I read the book but I didn't really know that much about him or his story. For the book, Grann was given access to some of Fawcett's notes and letters that had been passed down through the Fawcett family. This alternated between page-turned and "whatever." The frame of the story was beginning by telling us all the people who set out to die, then zeroing in on Fawcett and his career, matching it with the author learning about him and his career, so that as we catch up to his fatal departure we now care a lot about these people.
