An epic novel of English country life in the 1830s. I loved Molly and most of the people around her. What a talented writer Gaskell was—the characters seem to practically come alive. I’ll definitely read more of her books in the future!

It’s a wonder I’d never heard of this novel prior to stumbling across an audio version at Half Price Books. What a charmer! The rich, heartfelt tale of family, friends, and community is adorable and precious as well as vivid and enthusiastic. I finished this book just after November started for Victober. I really enjoyed this book, especially because I read her first novel and it was interesting to see how her style has matured. Elizabeth Gaskell excels at giving the reader rich characters that I care about. She develops her plots well and pushes the story along with strong narrative.

In Wives and Daughters, we see the main character growing up from the time she is a tween to a young adult. Unfortunately she has her future controlled
