I am in awe. I’m in a dream that I do not want to awaken from, this story taken root in the depths of my soul.
I have had a soft spot for Greek Mythology since I was in 3rd grade and had the most wonderful teacher from Greece who introduced me to the magical worlds of the gods and goddesses. And now Madeline Miller has brought it alive again for me in such a powerful and memorable way, that I’m in awe and deeply appreciative of the experience I’ve had with this book.

I was intimidated by this book as I find classics and antiquity quite intimidating, but this book was absolutely brilliant. The writing was lyrical and completely accessible, and reignited the love of Greek mythology that I had as a child. I had no prior knowledge of Circe so I don't know how true this is to what was written about her (if anything much was given that she was a woman), but I loved how her story overlapped with the well-known characters - Odysseus, Prometheus, Athena etc.

Circe follows the titular witch, who in Greek mythology was daughter of Helios, the Titan God of the sun, and the nymph, Perse. She may not be a 'great beauty', or have the best voice, but Circe discovers she possesses the power of witchcraft, and decides to test it out on two people: a mortal, and a love rival. As you can imagine, this doesn't end well for Circe, and she is exiled to a deserted island, where she decides to work on her witchcraft, and she ends up crossing paths with many famous

I've had this book on my physical bookcase since the day it came out. But I didn't read it, because that's what happens to books I own. I have too many library books to return and so on and so forth. So I finally decided to bite the bullet and request the e-audiobook from the library. And it's as beautifully written as I imagined it when I pre-ordered it. I loved Circe, I cheered for her when she started transforming men into pigs - they deserved it and more, I loved her clear-eyed relationships

4.5 Stars. All for Madeline Miller's story telling and writing abilities.

This is a 4.5 book! I love mythology and I thoroughly enjoyed this author who takes a minor character and flushes out an entire story. Circe, a witch who is banished to an island by her father Helios, is only noted in The Odyssey as the witch who captivates Odysseus for some time while changing his men into swine. But Madeline Miller has taken this snippet and created an entire backstory for the strong-willed Circe. The reader gets to meet her, understand her, and see situations from her point o
