So, I don't buy into the current feminist fad that is plastered across social media. I like reading books about gods, goddesses and all the creatures that live with them. However, this one was not as appealing to me as others I have read. Just couldn't get into the story. I felt, too, that the author's writing was not as polished as it could be. It's good that there are a few twists in the flow of this tale that surprise the reader. I enjoyed these. Nevertheless, I felt that there were gaps that left me the reader wondering what was really supposed to be there.

This was a fascinating story, possibly because it's so different from my usual fare. We first watch the younger years of Circe, a lesser nymph in the house of her father Helios (the Sun). She's bullied and tormented until she finally is exiled to a remote island. There she comes into her skills as a witch, taming local lions, creating her potions, and eventually (her main claim to fame in mythology) turning sailors into pigs. My first book by this author, we enjoyed it while traveling to TN recently. It was interesting to me that my teenage grandson could identify who was being described before they were named, and that he was so knowledgeable about the mythology. 4.5 stars, rounded to 5. AtY week 34. A book with a person's name in the title PSC - A book inspired by myth/legend/folklore
