Every time I read about Greek Mythology in any form makes me glad that I'm not related to one of those gods. You get no love!!!

I felt sorry for Circe for having to deal with these individuals, until she committed her own crimes out of spite. Still, the book was interesting and it definitely led me down the google rabbit hole to read as many myths about Circe as I could find to compare them to what Madeline Miller wrote.

I like the Greek myths, but I had never read anything about Circe until now.

I like reading books about gods, goddesses and all the creatures that live with them. However, this one was not as appealing to me as others I have read. Just couldn't get into the story. I felt, too, that the author's writing was not as polished as it could be. It's good that there are a few twists in the flow of this tale that surprise the reader. I enjoyed these. This was a very enjoyable, quick read. It didn't spark much for me to say here in a review -- it's not particularly thought-provoking and there are no writing or other problems that annoyed me. Just a well-written story giving Circe the background and ending that she deserves. ...more

This was a fascinating story, possibly because it's so different from my usual fare. We first watch the younger years of Circe, a lesser nymph in the house of her father Helios (the Sun). She's bullied and tormented until she finally is exiled to a remote island. There she comes into her skills as a witch, taming local lions, creating her potions, and eventually (her main claim to fame in mythology) turning sailors into pigs. Many familiar names are mentioned as she has relationships with or vis ...more

My first book by this author, we enjoyed it while traveling to TN recently. It was interesting to me that my teenage grandson could identify who was being described before they were named, and that he was so knowledgeable about the mythology. 4.5 stars, rounded to 5. AtY week 34. A book with a person's name in the title PSC - A book inspired by myth/legend/folklore ...more

There were parts that i felt could have been omitted or shortened, but otherwise i really like this. Mythology has always been fascinating to me, but I've never read the story of Circe. It was interesting seeing her point of view of the other gods and demigods. ...more
