Rosaline (Rosaline's Rolls & Scrolls)
This book fueled my depression!

I don't understand why. It is not a bad book, it's actually a very well written book. Had I finished it, I would have definitely given it a high rating. Hell, I was past 60%!
It is one of the very very few books that actually do a good job with Greek mythology. But for some reason even the thought of getting back to it makes me sad.

Maybe someday, Circe, maybe someday!

This was THE BOOK of 2018 and I can see why. It is very cleverly crafted and I loved how all the different myths were weaved into the story. Circe was a complex yet likeable character and I really felt for her throughout the story. Despite many missteps she had a real heart to her and was clearly trying to do the right thing.

I must also comment on the female relationships in this book. (view spoiler)

It's very interesting to read about Greek mythology, but I think the book was a little bit too long. ...more

Wow Circe really did get screwed. This was really entertaining and I can see why she’s angry.

There was so much room for building tension and emotion that just didn't happen and I never felt truly engaged beyond the first 100 pages or so. I wondered if it would've been better to just focus on one period in Circe's life, but I think this still could have been accomplished as an epic. I also didn't fi ...more

I was going to say 'this is the story of a bunch of despicable, miserable, horrible beings doing despicable, miserable, horrible things to each other' but really, it is not the story of anything. There is no there there - the book has no real story. Just a bunch of despicable, miserable, horrible beings doing despicable, miserable, horrible things to each other interspersed with Circe wandering around picking flowers and navel gazing, made worse since the navel gazing focuses largely on the desp ...more
