Things I liked about the book:
1. the MC is normal guy and not a raging alcoholic, which seems to be the standard in these Western Mystery novels.
He is coming out of the grip of deep grief and depression from his wife's passing. He smart but not too smart. He's not full of wise cracks.
2. The narrator was awesome. He has a gravelly melodic voice that fits Walt. I know it's not part of the book as such, but his voice and delivery are so nice it had to be #2.

This one is between three and four stars for me. But, it is the first book of a new series and first books often have bugs to work out so I tend to round up for them, as I did here.
I found the protagonist, Walt Longmire, to be complex, interesting, and engaging. I wanted to know him better even at the few times in the book when I didn't particularly like him.
