I'm so happy I finally got around to listening to this - highly entertaining and satisfying!! I loved the main characters of Sheriff Walt, his long time friend Henry Standing Bear, and the young brazen female deputy Vic. The wit and banter of the conversations between them all - I laughed out loud so many times!.

The Cold Dish by Craig Johnson is the first book in the Walt Longmire Mystery series. Sheriff Walt Longmire investigates the death of Cody Pritchard, who had two years earlier along with three accomplices , been convicted of raping a mentally challenged Cheyenne girl. Although interesting, I found this book dragged a little for me. I found it difficult to like Walt, who although capable of his job, seemed rather lazy. A sleepy, western setting with a similarly slow paced mystery.

This one is between three and four stars for me. But, it is the first book of a new series and first books often have bugs to work out so I tend to round up for them, as I did here.
I found the protagonist, Walt Longmire, to be complex, interesting, and engaging. I wanted to know him better even at the few times in the book when I didn't particularly like him. Good western mystery with a crusty widower sheriff, a legless sidekick, Native American wisdom and friendship and a killer out for revenge. Suspects abound but it takes a bit to like the characters and their relationships, by the end of the book I was rooting for the Sheriff and the friend he does not deserve.
