This is a re-read for me and it was still great. The story is so different/unique, it is very hard to describe what is happening. It is a great telling - and a picture of what might have happened with the Great Library of Alexandria. Although, the Library becomes the controller of all knowledge/books....which is very different than the picture of what the Library was meant to be.

The first thing that struck me about this book was the bravery and feeling of reality surrounding the main character, Jess. The second was how ironic it was that I was reading this book on a computer. Finally, it also struck me how real this sort of world could be. For that reason, this book was amazingly haunting in primarily the idea, but also in its slightly disturbing, yet awe-inspiring execution. This one is between three and four stars for me. But, even though it is a first book of a new series (where I tend to round up), it just doesn't quite make it to rounding up to four.
The book reads really 'young' even for a young adult book. But, then it also has some fairly well-described violence in it. I am not necessarily against the violent scenes as they added to the plot and were not too graphic, but in a YA book that reads so young it was surprising.n(that said, if comments on this page ...more
