The island of Bora, Bora during WWII, a well hidden bungalow that the islanders believe is cursed - considering the painter whom dwelt there, it's possible - a soldier who is neither an officer nor a gentleman, a murder, a baby, and an ill fated love affair. What more does this reader want? Not a thing! I loved, loved this novel! It will rest in my heart until I decide to read it once again.

This turned out to be quite nice. I'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to reading it--it's been on my TBR for years. In any case, we follow Ann as she decides to go to Bora Bora during WWII, using her newly-minted nursing degree. She puts her engagement on hold, mostly because she's ready for adventure and wants to support her best friend. This is tear-jerking romance with a murder. The heroine is a nurse, Anne Colloway, who survives the sinking of the hospital ship on which she is serving. Her arm is broken and she returns to England to recuperate. As she heals she thinks about the promise she made to a dying soldier with whom she had fallen in love.
