Red herrings right for the very beginning! They coloured the characters' perspectives and therefore, the readers'. I absolutely could not pick out who until it all became very obvious. The Dry is an immersive crime novel set in outback Australia. The drought was killing off the environment, animals, and businesses but was it such that it factors in this horrific murder-suicide?

WOW! What a beautiful story. This was such a well-done mystery...from the plot to the characters to the scenery (which in and of itself was also a character). You really felt you were in the middle of a drought in Australia. I felt the ending was well done and tied up most of the loose ends. I'' a little surprised this is the start of a series, because it seemed to be a nice, tidy stand-alone. Regardless, this is one of the best straight up mysteries I've read in several months.
