Intriguing and fascinating read that kept me on the edge of my seat clear to the end!! Great read! 4.5*

Last year I had read "Night Circus" and I had adored it. As soon as I saw that this book was very similar to it I immediately decided to read it. It has literally impressed me. Now I can not wait to read "Water to Elephants".
It all happens in one night: Arden is arrested by Virgil Holt and in the barrack are just the two of them. Arden is accused of killing her husband: he was her assistant and died during an exhibition of magic. She proclaims innocent and begins to tell her life hoping to convi ...more

As I've said numerous times before, anything compared to my beloved Erin Morgenstern is immediately added to my TBR list.
With that being said, this is definitely more "Water for Elephants" than "The Night Circus" which disappoints me, slightly. Once I realized that, I found I enjoyed this magical story. 3.5 stars! The premise and the writing are flawless, however, the end is lackluster and bland. This felt like the movie “The Usual Suspects,” set in a world of magic, smoke, and mirrors, but without the big, surprise reveal. Full of all the love, loss, and imagery that sets up a Victorian magic show, this mystery is too easy to figure out but the story around it is superb.
