Shelves: thriller
A strange & not so interesting mystery of a dead mule blew up into a worldwide conspiracy which involved people all the way up the government's hierarchy. A little far-fetched, tbh, even if it made a thrilling story, I have to suspend belief a lot of the time. I do like this character, Atlee Pine, almost Olympian, with her scout-readiness. But I think I like her sidekick secretary, Carol Blum, better with her no-nonsense & practical approach. She may be an older lady without as much advantage & ...more

Atlee Pine is an FBI agent assigned to the Shattered Rock field office which covers the Grand Canyon. She becomes involved in the investigation when a man disappears in the canyon and a mule is found dead and mutilated. This soon leads to a much more complicated plot. I liked Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum. The audiobook was a bit weird as a man randomly resd every male characters dialogue while everything else, including such things as "Jacob said", were read by a woman. I definitely plan o ...more

There were many twists and turns though a lot of the story was unbelievable. Baldacci doesn't have to use bad language or sex to keep his story going and the reader interested. ...more
