More like 2.5 stars.
Assassin's Apprentice begins with a small boy being dumped onto the doorstep of the royal palace. The old man who brings the boy claims the child is a bastard, fathered by the Prince Chivalry. Visited a dear friend who showed me this book and raved about it so naturally I had to read it.
Excellent deep and detailed story in the fantasy genre. I'm a natural speed reader but I noticed that it didn't kick in for this book. It was of a quality that wanted to be savored.

Born on the wrong side of the blankets, gifted with the power of animals and kings, innocent in the ways of politics, skilled in intrigue and murder. Hobb has created a character that defies expectations and does not know his own strength. The series started off to a great start and I cannot wait to read the others.
