As others have said, this book was a slow burn sort of foundation to a much larger story. From the first person narrator to the seemingly gentle pacing of this book, I knew I was in for something different.
I'm impressed with the amount of characters who have a lot of depth to them. And the dogs! Nosy and Smithy are great characters and their relationship with Fitz was both charming and tragic.
