I was mildly disappointed about my first read of 2014. I expected a little bit more of excitement and adventure and I ended up skimming the pages and waiting for the final page to be honest.
Why the 3 stars you say? The little twist at the end was surprisingly good and stirred enough of my curiosity to push me pursuing the rest of the series; which according to the raving reviews, is much better than the first installment.
Let's hope that's true! ...more

Most entertaining read. Great for children old enough to understand the pain of prison. The novel opens with the hero imprisoned. Yes, he is a thief, a most talented one blessed with these skills by the gods. When he is released he has to help a man find a treasure. "The Thief" was not at all how I expected it would be.
I thought of it being a children's or young adult book about thieving.
In the end there wasn't that much focus on thieving at all, even though the main character Gen nicks quite a few things, depending on how old the characters are suppossed to be (I'm a little bit confused about that) not much of a children / YA thing either.
Gen was put in the king's prison for stealing and bragging about it, and he gets tasked by the king's magus to steal ...more
