So this was a darker twisted retelling of the Little Mermaid. So our focus is a siren, instead of a mermaid (they are in here too though). The Sea Queen both holds the famous trident and has tentacles... Sirens hunt humans and now some humans are hunting them back. It is a slow-fought war. Now this was different.
Pretty damn brilliant and different.
It's a YA Fantasy with bits of a retelling of all those Little Mermaid stories (or, pardon: "little siren" stories). But instead of a Disney fishgirl, the main character, Lira, is a much darker sea monster who collects the hearts of human princes. Literally.
Her human counterpart might be a prince, but he's also a killer. And a pirate.
Pirates. Sea monsters.

The beginning was brilliant. So clever.
But then they got to the ice kingdom and it all just... broke. Like sea foam. So disappointing. :-(
