It was a fun, light read. However, I don't think that I was in the right frame of mind for this type of book because I found it a bit too light on character development and plot depth. It is one of those books that you just go along for the ride, enjoy the humour and don't take it too seriously. ...more

My Lady Jane is a humourous retelling of the story of Lady Jane Grey, who became Queen of England for 9 days after her cousin Edward died of the Affliction at the age of 16 years old, before having her head chopped off. But what if he didn't die? What if Lady Jane wasn't beheaded? What if Lady Jane was married off to a man who spends the hours of daylight as a horse? Wait.. what?

This book shouldn't work. It shouldn't be funny and shouldn't be a pageturner, but for the life of me, I couldn't

My favorite parts of this book are were the narrators are talking to the reader. I loved how funny this book was I wasn't expecting that at all. ...more

3.5 stars. Cute love story set in England during Lady Jane Grey's time. That is where all historical accuracy ends and fiction and fantasy take over. A good story line (did I mention cute) and some funny one liners but it was very much like watching the Brady Bunch, ie, cleaned up for under PG-13 readers and, yes, cute.

The best line of all was in the dedication prior to the title page:
"For everyone who knows there was enough roonm for Leonardo DiCaprio on that door.
And for England. We're really

So this book is really cute, and funny, and it keeps up the unique voice throughout (which I feel like can get lost sometimes as authors get more into the story). It was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed reading it. The only reason I’m not giving it 5* is just that… I didn’t LOVE it, but it could easily be a 5* read for someone else. I am excited to check out the TV show.

3,5 stars. It was an original story and I liked the humor. However, I'm really growing out of the YA couple-forcing thing. ...more
