My Lady Jane is a humourous retelling of the story of Lady Jane Grey, who became Queen of England for 9 days after her cousin Edward died of the Affliction at the age of 16 years old, before having her head chopped off. This was so unexpectedly hilarious. I saw this book when it came out, but somehow it didn't pull me in. But then my library got My Plain Jane and that's when I really looked at this series, and this book. And it's awesome and bonkers and if it wasn't enough that the authors gleefully play football with English history, at one point one character tells another: "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries". Sold.

3.5 stars. Cute love story set in England during Lady Jane Grey's time. That is where all historical accuracy ends and fiction and fantasy take over. A good story line (did I mention cute) and some funny one liners but it was very much like watching the Brady Bunch, ie, cleaned up for under PG-13 readers and, yes, cute.
